Getting Started & Process

How do we get started?

Contact us with your project details, square footage, and desired timeline. We will discuss your flooring options and schedule an estimate or site review.

What is the best way to contact you?

You can reach us directly by calling 980-313-4442, emailing Sales@SquareFTflooring.com, or submitting a request form on our website.

Timelines & Project Coordination

How quickly can you get materials delivered and complete an installation?

We pride ourselves on fast service from start to finish. We typically conduct an on-site measure and deliver a clear quote within a few days of your initial contact. Once the quote is approved, most flooring materials are sourced within 1 to 2 business days, and standard installations are completed in just a single day.

Can you work around tight listing or closing dates for real estate transactions?

Yes. We specialize in pre-listing refreshes and post-closing installations coordinated directly with real estate agents. In most cases, we can have materials ready and complete the installation on closing day—getting your new floors finished before any furniture is moved in to keep your transaction seamlessly on schedule.

Preparation & Site Cleanup

Do we need to move all the furniture out before the install team arrives?

No. Our turnkey crews can move and work around large pieces of furniture during installation. We simply ask that the space be cleared of small items, breakables, and general clutter before the team arrives.

What happens to the old carpet or existing flooring?

We offer full tear-out, removal, and disposal services to leave your job site clean and ready to use.

Hardwood & Engineered Hardwood

Is engineered hardwood "real" wood?

Yes. It features a genuine hardwood veneer on top of a multi-layer cross-grain core. This construction makes it much more stable than solid wood, meaning it won’t gap or cup as much during seasonal humidity changes.

Is engineered hardwood waterproof?

Engineered hardwood is water-resistant, not waterproof. While its layered core handles humidity and moisture fluctuations better than solid wood, standing water or prolonged exposure to high humidity can still cause swelling or warping. Spills should always be cleaned up promptly to protect your floors.

Can engineered hardwood be sanded and refinished like solid hardwood?

Yes, depending on the thickness of the top real-wood wear layer. Thicker wear layers allow for multiple full sandings and re-stainings down the road, while thinner layers can undergo a "screen and recoat" to refresh the protective finish without removing wood. Additionally, choosing harder species like oak or hickory provides superior resistance to daily wear and tear.

Why do plank lengths matter when choosing hardwood?

Flooring boxes contain varied plank lengths. Shorter "fixed length" boards can create a busy or choppy visual, whereas longer, random-length planks create a continuous flow that makes rooms feel larger and more open.

Is engineered hardwood scratch-resistant?

Engineered hardwood is resistant to routine wear, but like all real wood products, it is not completely scratch-proof. Most factory-finished planks feature advanced protective topcoats—such as aluminum oxide—that significantly enhance surface durability against everyday scuffs. Additionally, choosing denser species like oak, maple, or hickory provides superior resistance to pet claws and foot traffic. To keep your finish looking pristine, we recommend using felt pads under furniture legs, placing entry mats in high-traffic areas, and sweeping up grit regularly.

How long does engineered hardwood flooring last?

Engineered hardwood is known for its impressive durability and long lifespan, typically lasting 20 to 30 years or more with proper care. A floor's overall longevity depends on the thickness of its top real-wood wear layer, the quality of its inner core, and daily maintenance. Keeping up with regular cleaning, protecting against moisture, and performing a sand and refinish when needed will maximize your investment for decades.

What are the advantages of choosing engineered hardwood over site-finished hardwood?

While both feature 100% real wood surfaces, engineered hardwood offers several distinct advantages for modern homes:

  • Wider & Longer Planks for a Grand Look: Thanks to its multi-layer cross-grain construction, engineered hardwood can be crafted into much wider and longer planks than solid wood without cupping or warping—delivering a dramatic, high-end aesthetic that site-finished wood simply can't match.
  • Superior Stability & Moisture Resistance: Built to withstand temperature and humidity fluctuations, engineered hardwood resists expanding and shrinking, making it suitable for basements, kitchens, and over concrete subfloors.
  • Faster, Cleaner Installation: Arriving pre-finished from the factory, engineered hardwood eliminates dusty sanding, strong chemical fumes, and multi-day drying times—allowing you to enjoy your new floors immediately.
  • Durable Factory Finish: Pre-finished engineered planks feature heavy-duty, UV-cured topcoats applied in controlled environments, providing exceptional scratch resistance right out of the box.
  • Versatile Installation Options: Engineered flooring can be glued, floated, or nailed down over various subfloors, including concrete slabs, whereas solid site-finished wood requires a wood subfloor.

What are the disadvantages of engineered hardwood flooring?

While engineered hardwood is popular for its stability and real-wood beauty, there are a few limitations to consider:

  • Not Completely Waterproof: Although it resists moisture better than solid hardwood, engineered wood is not waterproof. Standing water or high humidity in areas like full bathrooms can still cause swelling or warping over time.
  • Vulnerable to Scratches & Dents: While its factory finishes are durable, the top layer is still natural wood and can scratch or dent under heavy impact. Using felt furniture pads and area rugs in high-traffic zones is recommended.
  • Limited Refinishing: Unlike solid wood—which can be sanded down many times—engineered hardwood can only be sanded and refinished 1 to 3 times over its lifetime, depending on the thickness of its top wear layer.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) & Tile (LVT)

Why do you recommend Stone Plastic Composite (SPC) LVP over laminate?

SPC LVP features a 60% limestone core that makes it 100% waterproof and structurally stable, whereas laminate is only water-resistant (12–24 hours) and subject to moisture damage.

What is the difference between SPC (Stone Plastic) and WPC (Wood Plastic) core LVP?

Both are 100% waterproof rigid-core options. SPC features a dense limestone core engineered for superior dent resistance under heavy loads. WPC includes a foamed core that offers a slightly softer, warmer, and quieter feel underfoot.

What is the difference between LVP and LVT?

While both are high-durability luxury vinyl products, the main difference comes down to shape, design aesthetic, and intended visual style:

  • LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank): Crafted in long, narrow planks designed to mimic the exact grain, texture, and look of natural hardwood. It is an ideal choice for living areas, bedrooms, hallways, and open-concept layouts where you want a seamless wood finish.
  • LVT (Luxury Vinyl Tile): Manufactured in rectangular or square tile shapes that replicate the appearance of natural stone, slate, marble, or ceramic. It is frequently installed in kitchens, bathrooms, foyers, and utility spaces for an authentic tile look without cold surfaces or high-maintenance grout.

Can luxury vinyl flooring be installed over existing floors or minor subfloor imperfections?

Yes, in many cases! Rigid-core LVP (such as SPC) can be installed directly over existing hard surfaces like ceramic tile, wood, or concrete. Thanks to its rigid construction, it can easily bridge small cracks, grout lines, and minor subfloor imperfections without "telegraphing" through to the surface—saving you significant time and preparation costs.

However, the underlying floor must be structurally sound, dry, and relatively flat. Heavily textured, severely damaged, or soft subfloors (such as cushioned sheet vinyl or carpet) will require prep work or removal first. Our installation team conducts a thorough subfloor inspection prior to installation to ensure a smooth, lasting finish.

What is the difference between "Click-Lock" and "Glue-Down" LVP?

Click-Lock is a floating floor ideal for residential upgrades and quick flips.
Glue-Down is recommended for large commercial spaces or heavy rolling traffic (office chairs/carts) to prevent shifting over time.

Are underlayment pads required for click-lock LVP?

Most rigid-core LVP products come with pre-attached acoustic padding on the back of each plank, which provides built-in cushion and sound absorption without requiring a separate underlayment pad. However, when installing over concrete subfloors or in areas where moisture may be a concern, we always install a 6mil moisture vapor barrier underneath to protect your floors from subfloor dampness.

What are the primary benefits of choosing luxury vinyl flooring?

Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) and tile (LVT) have become top choices for residential and commercial spaces due to several key advantages:

  • 100% Waterproof Performance: Completely impervious to moisture, making it an excellent solution for high-humidity areas like basements, full bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.
  • Exceptional Everyday Durability: Engineered with tough wear layers that stand up to active households, pet claws, heavy foot traffic, and potential impact dents.
  • Superior Underfoot Comfort: Offers a softer, warmer, and more cushioned surface to stand on compared to cold, rigid materials like porcelain tile or natural stone.
  • Budget-Friendly Elegance: Delivers high-end aesthetics at a fraction of the cost of traditional solid hardwood or stone, offering high value for your investment.
  • Effortless Maintenance: Requires no specialized sealers or wax—routine sweeping and damp mopping keep the surface looking brand new.
  • Extensive Style Selection: High-definition printing techniques recreate hyper-realistic wood grain textures, tile patterns, and natural stone finishes to complement any interior style.

Do you handle stair installations for Luxury Vinyl Plank?

Yes, we supply and install matching LVP stair treads for a seamless, cohesive look. We can also stain existing oak stairs to match any LVP color.

Carpet

Why is carpet padding necessary during installation, and should I upgrade?

Carpet padding acts as a shock absorber against everyday foot traffic, protecting the backing from grinding against the subfloor. It provides thermal insulation, dampens sound, and significantly extends the overall life and comfort of your carpet.

Upgrading your cushion enhances these benefits—making your floors feel softer, quieter, and more resilient. We offer a premium 8lb SpillBound padding, which features a specialized moisture barrier that prevents liquids and pet accidents from soaking down into the subfloor. Upgrading to SpillBound cushion makes cleaning up messes effortless while protecting your subfloor, making it an excellent choice for pet-friendly homes.

Which carpet types are best for homes with active pets?

Cut-pile carpets (such as Texture or Frieze) are ideal for pets because there are no exposed loops for claws to snag or tear. Synthetic fibers like Nylon or Triexta offer maximum stain and soil resistance.

What are the main advantages of choosing carpet flooring?

Carpet remains a top choice for bedrooms, family rooms, and upper levels due to its unique combination of comfort and practical benefits:

  • Unmatched Comfort & Warmth: Provides a soft, welcoming surface underfoot that makes living spaces feel cozy and inviting.
  • Superior Sound Absorption: Cushions footsteps and reduces echo between floors, making it ideal for multi-story homes or busy households.
  • Safety & Slip Resistance: Creates a non-skid surface that provides traction and offers impact protection against falls for young children and seniors.
  • Thermal Energy Efficiency: Acts as natural room insulation, helping retain ambient indoor heat and potentially lowering winter energy bills.
  • Versatile Design Choices: Available in an endless variety of fibers, plush textures, loop patterns, and color tones to match any design style.

How durable is carpet, and how can I maximize its lifespan?

High-quality carpets made from durable fibers like nylon or wool typically last 10 to 15 years or more with proper upkeep. For high-traffic areas, loop styles like Berber offer exceptional resistance to matted pile and daily wear. Choosing an upgraded cushion—such as our 8lb SpillBound pad—also helps absorb heavy impact and preserves your carpet's appearance for years.

To keep your investment looking brand new and maintain manufacturer warranty coverage, follow these essential maintenance tips:

  • Routine Vacuuming: Vacuum high-traffic areas weekly to prevent loose dirt and abrasive grit from settling into the backing.
  • Entryway Protection: Place walk-off mats at all exterior doors to catch dirt and moisture before it reaches your rooms.
  • Prompt Spot Removal: Blot spills immediately using warm water and mild detergent according to your warranty instructions.
  • Professional Deep Cleaning: Schedule professional hot-water extraction (steam cleaning) every 12 to 18 months to remove deeply embedded soil and revitalize fiber bounce.

Tile & Ceramic Flooring

What is the most durable floor tile option available?

Porcelain tile is widely considered the most durable tile flooring option on the market. Fired from refined clay at higher temperatures than standard ceramic tile, porcelain becomes significantly denser, harder, and less porous. This dense construction gives porcelain an extremely low water absorption rate, making it ideal for high-moisture wet zones and outdoor applications while effortlessly resisting stains, pet claws, and heavy furniture weight.

Porcelain flooring offers exceptional performance across residential and commercial spaces:

  • Denser & Harder Than Ceramic: Fired at extreme heat using refined clay, it delivers unmatched resistance to chipping, cracking, and daily wear.
  • Extremely Low Water Absorption: Superior moisture resistance makes it the perfect solution for bathrooms, laundry rooms, and exterior patio installations.
  • Glazed & Unglazed Options: Choose from glazed finishes for vibrant colors and easy cleaning, or unglazed options for added slip resistance and raw texture.
  • Versatile Aesthetics: Advanced printing allows porcelain to replicate natural hardwood planks, marble, slate, and polished concrete.

Do you offer tile installation for showers, walls, and backsplashes, or just floors?

We handle full-service custom tile installation for all areas of your home, far beyond just flooring! Our skilled installation team specializes in a wide variety of vertical and flat surfaces, including:

  • Tile Flooring: Durable, beautifully laid tile for kitchens, bathrooms, foyers, and mudrooms.
  • Custom Showers & Wet Zones: Complete waterproof shower surrounds, curbless entries, benches, and accent niches built to protect your subfloor and walls against moisture.
  • Kitchen & Vanity Backsplashes: Precision tile setting to create eye-catching focal points behind counters and sinks.
  • Accent & Feature Walls: Floor-to-ceiling tile walls, fireplace surrounds, and architectural detail tiling.

Does tile grout need to be sealed?

Standard cement-based grout is porous and absorbs moisture and stains over time. Applying a quality grout sealer periodically protects against discoloration, water penetration, and mold growth.

Where do you source your tile, and can I get help choosing the right design?

We partner with premier local tile distributors—including industry leaders like Daltile and MSI—to give you direct access to extensive showrooms featuring the latest tile trends, colors, and materials. To make your decision effortless, you will work alongside a licensed interior designer who will guide you through material selection, pattern layouts, and color coordination to ensure your new floors, showers, or backsplashes perfectly complement your home's aesthetic.
